Typhoon Xangsane
The remenants of Typhoon Xangsane are over us now. It has been raining since yesterday. So far the winds have been moderate and the storm has mostly disapated. Thailand's military rulers announced a stop-gap prime minister and constitution on Sunday, fulfilling a promise to step back in favor of civilians within two weeks of their coup against Thaksin Shinawatra. Gen. Surayud Chulanont was sworn in as the new interim prime minister. According to the generals' "democracy roadmap," this should take about nine months, at the end of which there will be a referendum and national elections. This seems to be good news for most Thais though there have been some rumblings. Time will tell.
Today is a packing day for me. Leaving for Chachoensao tomorrow to visit friends and then to Suvarnabhumi, the new airport now one of the largest in the world. Take alook at my new website. It is still a work in progress and I am adding new content all the time.
There have been glitches from the servers, but the admin says they will be soon fixed.
My one image of the coup. I shot this the other day. Gave the soldiers a big thumbs up and they were all smiles.
